Marty review in HackSpace magazine

Posted 10:08:38, 21st June 2018   |   № 114

A friend gave me a copy of the first edition of HackSpace magazine. I was very impressed by it and it looked inspirational. I ended up buying two (paper) gift subscriptions. I see Marty has been reviewed in the latest edition. I note it mentions the current price of 150 pounds.

I spotted BETT - Robotical Ltd the other day. I've mentioned this to a few friends involved in various computing in school initiatives.

Analogue read on the gpio pins from Python or Scratch?

Posted 20:58:41, 11th January 2018   |   № 81

I see a write_gpio and digitalread_gpio but nothing that sounds like an analog read in Python API. Am I missing something?

If this did exist, would it suffer from same bug discussed in python get_motor_current always 0.0 and Socket API problem ?

I am also seeing an issue with Scratch. The Input block returns 0 or 1 and I cannot w…

Scratch commands to diagnose problems

Posted 17:11:32, 18th October 2017   |   № 63

I was doing some Scratch programming today with Marty and there were a number of times when the program failed to start/execute. It would often start a few green-flag-start clicks later or perhaps it was just a short time later. I had a continuous icmp ping running and that in general was ok with very occasional single packet loss. Marty was a few feet from the laptop hotspot I was using. I think communication was reasonable. It would be good if there was a way in Scratch to either show any (prior) errors a…

Marty stumble and seized hip servo

Posted 16:46:10, 18th October 2017   |   № 62

I took Marty to work today for a day out. I was doing a few demonstrations of wiggle and kick in Scratch, I probably did that about 20 times and he then surprised us by toppling over. After a bit of investigation it turned out his right hip servo (K-Power DMM016 Servo) got stuck at an approximately 45 degree position backwards. I've just disassembled the top of right leg to check and the servo and it does appear to have seized. I've not tried anything too forceful, is there anything you can recommend to rec…

Sound samples?

Posted 18:22:57, 28th August 2017   |   № 33

I see there's audio which can play a pitch for a duration and also increasing and decreasing ranges. Is there any feature tucked away for Marty to play short sound samples?

Disco Marty

Posted 18:20:01, 28th August 2017   |   № 32

Are there instructions for adding the Neopixels to Marty to make the disco version shown in this video?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWL90Y8XDKo

What extras does it need apart from the obvious leds? The brief scene of 3d printing in the video and absence on recesses on the standard Marty suggests he needs a new, modified face?

Scratch - selecting one Marty from many

Posted 16:33:08, 26th August 2017   |   № 30

I had a few problems with the Scratch extension on Firefox (with NoScript). They don't load automatically from the link and it didn't seem able to find my Marty. I gave up on that and am now using Chrome which seems to work well and will launch from the link you have on your page. I just ran the current graphing one for right arm movement. I'm curious what the units are?

One thing I haven't worked out yet is how the Marty Selector blocks work? I thought I'd just add the "Select Marty on IP" and tap in th…
